MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman David Hann issued the following statement in response to Governor Tim Walz breaking his silence on school safety concerns:

“I’m glad that Governor Tim Walz finally broke his silence on an important issue that has concerned parents, students, teachers, staff, and law enforcement across Minnesota.

While calling a Special Session is the right decision to correct the mistake made by Governor Walz and legislative Democrats, Governor Walz could have addressed this issue before schools started when Republican legislators first raised concerns about the importance of having school resource officers protecting our learning environment.

Instead, hundreds of thousands of families sent their children to school today, knowing their children’s safety has never been more at risk.

How can we expect our youngest learners to overcome the education gap if they don’t feel safe in their schools?”
